DARO, Oct 23: Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has agreed in principle to the construction of Daro Waterfront at a cost of RM35 million.
He announced this during the ‘Leaders with Community’ programme held at an open hall in Daro town here today.
“We want to beautify Daro so insya-Allah we will approve the RM35 million allocation for Daro Waterfront.
“When I give a promise, I (deliver). Because if we lie, our tongue will get cut.
“But when I promise (something), I will also make sure to be fair in implementing projects in other areas. If I cannot afford to fulfil it, I will say I cannot and we renegotiate again,” he said.
He also said he will consider the construction of a new pasar tani (market) in Daro to provide a better venue for the local fisherfolk and farmers to sell their catch and produce.
Additionally, he said the Sarawak government will also look into building the 5.3km-long ‘missing link’ road to connect Jalan Tanjung Manis to Sibu via Lebaan Bridge.
“I have requested the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) representative to jot down notes with regards to the road.
“This is because we want to see how much allocation is required to build the 5.3km road,” he said.
Earlier, Daro assemblyman Safiee Ahmad in his speech, said a food basket area involving Daro, Semop and Meradong constituencies involving about 400 acres of land has been identified.
Thus, he requested for a road to be constructed to connect the area to the main road. — DayakDaily
