KUCHING, Oct 11: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg has fulfilled one of the first promises he made to the people when he was sworn in three years ago in 2017.
“Setting up Sarawak’s own TV station was among the first few promises that I made when I took over from the late Pehin Sri Adenan (Satem),” said Abang Johari at the official launching of the first state-owned TV station TV Sarawak (TVS) at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here today.
In his speech, he revealed he felt glad to have delivered his promise to the people of Sarawak within a space of some three years.
With that, Abang Johari was proud to present the television broadcast platform which will become the flagship of Sarawak’s endeavour to tap the potential of the local creative industry.
He believed that Sarawak is not short of talents and content material to showcase to national and even global audiences.
“With the existence of TVS, I’m sure there will be more opportunities for Sarawakians to excel in various fields through content.
“In turn, more job opportunities will be created which mean more revenue streams for content creators in the digital economy ecosystem,” he highlighted.
Abang Johari also disclosed the state government’s plan to expand TVS into a digital terrestrial television (DTT) platform under MYTV which is free for viewing and monthly subscriptions.
TVS is now accessible nationwide through Astro Channel 122, NJOI 122 and the Astro Go mobile application. — DayakDaily
