Abang Helmi represents Sarawak in EAC

KUCHING, March 30: Sarawak Bumiputera Entrepreneurs Chambers (DUBS) chairman Datu Abang Helmi Ikhwan has been appointed as one of the members of the Economic Action Council (EAC).

Abang Helmi, who was trained in economy and business, will represent Sarawak, while prominent banker Datuk Bridget Lai@Bridget Anne Chin Hung Yee will represent Sabah in the 13 members of EAC.

According to national daily The Star, the prime minister’s office has agreed to appoint the two top industry players from Sabah and Sarawak as members to represent the states.


Following a meeting of the EAC today, the prime minister’s, office in a statement, said it will give special focus on complaints and views from the small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

“The SMEs are facing serious challenges due to the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. To lessen the burden of tenants, all private or personal business premise owners are encouraged to consider giving discounts, delays or exemptions to entrepreneurs who are unable to operate their businesses, ” it added.

The statement outlined that the Unit for the Implementation and Coordination of National Agencies on the economic stimulus package (Laksana) from the Finance Ministry also presented a report on the monitoring of the economic stimulus package which was announced by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. — DayakDaily
