KUCHING, March 20: Sarawak Bumiputera Entrepreneurs Chamber (DUBS) called on Petros (Petroleum Sarawak Berhad) to award a percentage of oil and gas (O&G) contracts to Sarawak Bumiputera contractors, especially its members.

DUBS president Datu Abang Helmi Tan Sri Ikhwan said something needs to be done to improve and increase DUBS’ participation in the oil and gas industry.

“It’s more so that the main players are not outside Sarawak. We have our very own Petros, which is becoming a big player. There is no reason why Petros won’t give enough opportunities to Bumiputera contractors,” he said when officiating at the Oil and Gas Contractor Transformation Program (PTKS) held at a local hotel today.

According to Abang Helmi, among DUBS members, there are capable contractors who have been involved in plant construction and maintenance as well as offshore and other transport services.

He added that lucrative contracts could make Bumiputera contractors grow in the petroleum industry.

The two-day programme saw about 100 participants comprising oil and gas players throughout Sarawak.

The programme is jointly organised by Suarah Petroleum Group (SPG) dan DUBS. — DayakDaily
