SIBU, Jan 22: ‘A New Team for a New Sibu’ has been formed, comprising four Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) assemblymen in the district and Senator Robert Lau Hui Yew.

Nangka assemblyman Dr Annuar Rapaee, after attending a briefing on the Bukit Assek Re-development Plan today, told reporters that the team had its first meeting last night.

The four assemblymen include Dr Annuar himself, Joseph Chieng (Bukit Assek), Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing (Dudong), and Michael Tiang (Pelawan).

“We have decided that GPS elected representatives will continue to come together to discuss the problems faced by the people such as flood, treated water, drainage, public transport, low-cost housing, and Sibu Hospital services,” he said.

Dr Annuar said they had delegated each person a different task; he will handle Sibu Hospital services, Chieng will handle road and traffic issues, Tiang will handle public transport, and Tiong will handle flood, drainage and water problems.

He added that they would go to the ground with the relevant agencies to look into these issues and find ways to overcome them.

“I have also asked the director of the hospital to hold a briefing for the five of us on the improvement of their services,” he said.

On the new team, he said he had suggested that they meet every month to look into the issues that are close to the people.

“Last night was the first time we met. This is also the first time Sibu has so many YBs (elected representatives) in the government. So, we have created a team called ‘A New Team for a New Sibu’ which dares to voice and deliver effectively for Sibu people,” he said. — DayakDaily
