KUCHING, July 23: The results of the Malaysian Higher School Certificate (STPM) 2023 examination revealed today saw a total of 88 candidates in Sarawak have achieved a maximum Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 4.0.
Sarawak Education Director Datu Dr Azhar Ahmad said that number is equivalent to 1.55 per cent of 5,838 total registered candidates.
“In addition, a total of 1,910 candidates or 33.56 per cent have obtained CGPAs ranging from 3.0 to 3.99,” he said at a press conference in Kuching today.
As for school achievements, Dr Azhar said as many as 16 schools in Sarawak had recorded impressive STPM 2023 results, with a CGPA over 3.0.
Of the 16 schools, eight are in Sibu, namely SMK Sacred Heart, SMK Chunghua, SMK Sungai Merah, SMK Kampung Nangka, SMK Bandar Sibu, SMK Methodist, SMK Rosli Dobhy and SMK Durin.
Meanwhile, three other schools are from Kuching namely SMK Bako, SMK Green Road and SMK Batu Lintang.
The other five schools are SMK Saribas (Betong), SMK Merbau (Miri), SMK St Anthony (Sarikei) and SMK Agama Sheikh Hj Othman Abd Wahab (Padawan).
“For the year 2023, the CGPA for Sarawak is 2.69 compared to 2.75 in 2022,” he revealed.
He also said for the STPM 2023 cohort, a total of 5,860 candidates throughout Sarawak have sat for the exam at 83 registered centres.
Of the total, 22 were private candidates.
Dr Azhar also informed that one of the best STPM 2023 candidates from the person with special needs category, Mohammad Nazif Idham, has been invited to receive an award at the Malaysian Examinations Council.
“Mohammad Nazif from SMK Merapok in Lawas has obtained an excellent result of 4.0 CGPA,” he emphasised. — DayakDaily
