KUCHING, Sept 1: A 74-year-old woman from Sibu without comorbidities was among seven elderly people who passed away due to Covid-19 in Sarawak as the State registered 2,414 new positive cases today.
According to a report from the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) on the daily update of the Covid-19 situation in sarawak, there were seven deaths recorded today.
There were three cases involving two women and one man aged between 62 and 85 in Kuching, while one case each was reported in Betong, Pusa, Serian and Sibu involving two men and two women aged 78, 62, 76 and 74 respectively.
Most of the victims had hypertension and heart disease, while the 62-year-old deceased from Kuching had hypertension and cerebral palsy.
With seven more fatalities reported, the death toll due to Covid-19 in Sarawak has increased to 533.
On the other hand, 2,414 new Covid-19 cases were reported in Sarawak, out of which 85.34 per cent or 2,060 cases were asymptomatic or classified as Category 1 cases.
There were 14.37 per cent or 347 cases reported were in Category 2 or having mild symptoms, 0.12 per cent or three cases in Category 4 with lung infection and require respiratory support and 0.17 per cent or four cases in Category 5 on ventilators.
There were also eight Import B cases with four of them from Kuala Lumpur, two from Selangor and one each from Kedah and Sabah.
SDMC said there were 32 districts which reported new cases today.
Based on district, Kuching witnessed the highest number of infections with 1,031 cases reported followed by Bintulu with 174 cases, Sibu (121), Subis (115) and Betong (107).
This was followed by Sri Aman with 92 cases, Bau (91), Simunjan (76), Samarahan (73), Asajaya (64), Serian (60), Tebedu (55) and Limbang (53).
Subsequently, Song reported 49 cases, Miri (33), Kapit (33), Tatau (32), Saratok (31), Lawas (21), Selangau (19), Lubok Antu (17), Lundu (13), Pusa (13) and Sarikei (11).
Eight other districts reported single digit cases and they were Belaga with six cases, Kanowit (6), Sebauh (5), Mukah (4), Bukit Mabong (4), Pakan (3), Dalat (1) and Meradong (1).
With the 2,414 new cases reported, the cumulative number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Sarawak has increased to 118,972.
A total of 2,238 Covid-19 patients have recovered and were discharged from health facilities throughout Sarawak, bringing the cumulative number of recoveries to 92,156 cases, or 77.46 per cent of the total Covid-19 cases in the State.
Meanwhile, 26,075 Covid-19 patients are still being treated in hospitals and Covid-19 Quarantine and Low Risk Treatment Centres (PKRC) throughout the State.
Apart from that, there were two new clusters of Covid-19 identified in Limbang while the Duyoh Cluster in Bau and Kampung Pueh Cluster in Lundu ended after zero Covid-19 cases reported in the past 28 days.
With two new clusters of Covid-19 emerging and two clusters declared ended, there are 131 active clusters in Sarawak, of which 13 active clusters registered 234 new cases of Covid-19 today. ā DayakDaily
