KUCHING, Aug 29: The 728.56-metre-long bridge across Batang Kemena in Sebauh, slated for full completion by December 2025, is now nearing the final stages of construction with the successful connection of its last segment today, marking a major milestone for one of Sarawak’s most significant infrastructure projects.
The symbolic segment connection ceremony was officiated by Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Minister Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Anak Utom, who represented Deputy Premier and Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
Dr Rundi said the bridge, long awaited by the Sebauh community, will serve as a vital catalyst for socio-economic growth in both Sebauh and the greater Bintulu division.

Once complete, the bridge will replace existing ferry services and provide faster, safer, and more comfortable road connectivity for the people.
“This bridge represents progress that the people have been waiting for, and it will significantly improve daily life and unlock greater opportunities in the region,” he said in a post shared on Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak social media.
The Batang Kemena Bridge is part of the Sarawak government’s commitment to building safer, modern, and efficient transport infrastructure for its people.
In line with the slogan “We Build For You”, JKR Sarawak reaffirmed its role as the backbone of State infrastructure development, aligned with the aspirations of the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.
