KUCHING, March 20: An elderly resident in their 70s was rushed to the hospital for breathing difficulties following a devastating fire that engulfed Rh Lapie, Sungai Sinai, Ulu Sebauh in Bintulu, today (March 20).
The blaze left around 300 residents homeless.
According to a report by Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), they received the distress call at 11am and arrived at the scene 45 minutes later.
The operations commander Mazlan Tanin reported that the fire destroyed 27 out of 30 doors in the longhouse, consuming approximately 70 per cent of the structure, which measured around 200 by 400 square feet.
Firefighters managed to save three doors from the flames.
The elderly victim was promptly transported to the hospital by Bomba’s Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS). Fortunately, all other residents were reported safe, with no additional injuries.
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire, while support efforts are underway for the displaced residents. – DayakDaily
