KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 16: A total of 17 new projects and 53 connection projects under the Rural Water Supply Program (BALB) in Sarawak, valued at RM3.16 billion, have been approved this year.
Deputy Minister of Rural Development, Datuk Rubiah Wang, said that of the 70 projects, eight are under construction, 45 are in the pre-implementation stage, and 17 have been completed and are in the process of final payment.
She shared this information in response to a question posed by Senator Pele Peter Tinggom during today’s question-and-answer session in the Dewan Negara.
Rubiah further explained that the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) Sarawak is directly responsible for implementing these projects as the Supervising Officer (SO).
“Starting this year, JBALB has been appointed as the implementing agency for 17 rural water supply projects in Sarawak valued at RM50 million and below,” she said.
Rubiah also highlighted that the plan to recognize JBALB as a technical department, in line with Treasury Directive 182 (AP182), is currently under review and consideration by the Ministry of Finance. – DayakDaily
