69yo man found drowned after boat capsized at Sungai Anap, Tatau

KUCHING, Feb 8: The body of an elderly man, who was reported missing after his boat capsized at Sungai Anap, Tatau, has been found along the banks of Sungai Sangan this morning.

The deceased, 69-year-old Lila Jali, was found drowned by local residents and his son, according to reports by the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba).

“At 8.15am, the chief of the Tatau Fire Station was contacted by military personnel and they reported that a drowned victim had been found by local residents and the victim’s son on the banks of Sungai Sangan,” it said.

It said the operations team was deployed to retrieve the body from the location where it was found. The body was then transported via boat to the Bomba control post and handed over to the police for further action.

The deceased was a resident of Antau Sait longhouse along Sungai Anap.

On Wednesday, he and his wife had transported their son to Sangan town at 5.15pm for his return to duty at the end of his leave.

At approximately 5.17pm, the longhouse chief contacted their son to inform him that his parents’ boat had capsized about 10km from Tatau jetty while they were navigating back home.

While his mother was rescued by villagers, his father was nowhere to be found. – DayakDaily
