66 yo woman in Betong still missing, 7-day search halted until new leads emerge

BETONG, Dec 26: The search and rescue (SAR) operation for a missing elderly woman in Pais, Skrang here, has been called off on its seventh day after no clues were found regarding her whereabouts.

The victim, Jijah Sanggah, 66, was reported missing on Dec 18, 2024, after failing to return home from her farm.

Her family lodged a report with the police on the same day.

Despite efforts to locate her, there was no sign of her as of Dec 19, 2024, prompting the launch of a SAR operation.

On the seventh day of operation (Dec 25), despite exhaustive efforts until 4.10pm, the victim could not be located.

“Following discussions with the victim’s family and involved agencies, the police decided to conclude the SAR operation at 4.15pm.

“The operation will resume if new leads emerge,” Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said in a report today.

Although the large-scale search has officially ended, hope remains for finding the victim. – DayakDaily
