American woman, 83, latest coronavirus case in Malaysia

KUCHING, Feb 15: Malaysia  has recorded the 22nd case of novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) this evening.

The Ministry of Health (MoH) in a statement said there was a new case which brought the total number of cases to 22.

Its director-general Datuk Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah in a press statement said the 22nd case involved an 83-year-old female US citizen.


He disclosed that the woman was one of the passengers of a cruise which docked in Cambodia on February 13.

Dr. Noor Hisham pointed out that all the other passengers and working crew aboard the ship had been allowed to return to their home countries apart from the woman and her husband after being notified by the Cambodian government of their health screening.

He stated that there were 145 passengers on the cruise who flew to Malaysia on February 14.

Out of that total, Dr. Noor Hisham said both the woman and her husband has been found to exhibit symptoms of Covid-19 upon their arrival at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).

He said they were then referred to the Sungai Buloh Hospital for futher medical examination.

Dr. Noor Hisham revealed that initial medical test for Covid-19 for the women has been performed at the Malaysia Medical Research Institute and has been confirmed positive today (February 15).

He said the woman was currently in stable condition and was being treated at the isolation ward of the hospital.

In the meantime, Dr.Noor Hisham said the medical test for her husband, aged 85, was negative.

Nonetheless, Dr. Noor Hisham said the woman’s husband was being treated and monitored at Sungai Buloh Hospital for the symptoms that he developed. —DayakDaily
