SIBU, July 2: A man was fined RM6,000 in default six months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court here today after pleading guilty to reckless driving resulting in the death of another motorist.
The court also ordered the driving licence of the accused, Ting King Hoe, 62, to be endorsed after he pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 43(1), Road Transport Act 1987.
This section provides for a fine of not less than RM5,000 and not more than RM10,000, as well as a prison sentence of not more than 12 months, if convicted.
Ting was charged with reckless driving on June 24, 2023, at about 10.30am on Jalan Sibu-Durin.
The accused lost control of the vehicle he was driving and entered the opposite lane before colliding with the vehicle driven by the victim.
The investigation found that the accident was caused by the accused driving the vehicle without due care and attention to other road users.
