SIBU, April 12: A man has been sentenced to a jail term of 10 years and 12 strokes of the cane by the Sessions Court here today after he pleaded guilty to three charges of raping a minor.
The accused, Kilat Sasing, 60, was charged under Section 376 of the Penal Code for the three charges.
According to the facts of the case, the accused raped the victim who was then 13-years-old at their longhouse in Sungai Apong between 1pm to 3pm, sometime in November 2021.
He then committed the same offence in December that year at the same place.
The victim is a holder of a person with disability card from the Welfare Department since 2016. She is a slow learner.
The victim’s mother, 30, had at about 7pm on March 7, 2022 saw that she had lost her appetite and was often vomiting.
She was later found out to be pregnant after being brought for a pregnancy test.
At about 1.30pm on April 1, 2022, the police arrested the accused after the woman lodged a police report.
In mitigation before Judge Marutin Pagan, the accused pleaded for leniency, saying that he was remorseful for the offence. He also said that he is suffering from high blood pressure and diabetes and needs to constantly consult doctors and take his medicine.
He added that children are not working and his wife is also suffering from a brain tumor.
Deputy public prosecutor, Heng Yi Min pressed for a deterrent sentence, saying that the accused who is the victim’s neighbour had abuse her trust by raping her. — DayakDaily
