600 new Covid-19 cases in Sarawak on June 6, plus 4 deaths

KUCHING, June 6: Sarawak has recorded a total of 600 new Covid-19 cases and four fatalities today.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said Kuching with 113 cases, Sibu 107 and Bintulu 101 registered 321 or 53.5 per cent of the total number of cases.


Other districts with new infections on this day also included Miri (72), Sri Aman (39), Kapit (26), Tatau (26), Pakan (19), Samarahan (15), Sebauh (12), Subis (11), Betong (11), Serian (9), Meradong (9), Bau (8), Bukit Mabong (4), Asajaya (4), Mukah (4), Julau (2), Pusa (2), Lawas (2), Daro (1), Kanowit (1), Sarikei (1) and Marudi (1).

With that, the committee said the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in the whole of Sarawak since the outbreak in March, 2020 now stands at 51,171.

“Out of the 600 patients today, 443 of them were detected following close contact screenings where none of them were symptomatic.

“Another 71 cases were of other screenings from health facilities where one showed signs and symptoms of Covid-19 infection.

“Adding on, there were 51 cases that were from symptomatic tests in health facilities, 32 cases were individual screenings from active clusters, two Import-B cases and one Import-A case,” it said in the statement on Covid-19 update today.

Meanwhile, SDMC also reported four new deaths from Covid-19 today, thus increasing the death toll to 322.

The four fatalities today were between 61 to 72 years old from Kanowit, Sibu, Sarikei and Miri. All four of them had medical histories of comorbidities.

With 435 new recoveries throughout Sarawak, there are still 8,892 active cases who are receiving treatment in the hospitals across Sarawak.

On the latest update of Covid-19 zones, Sarawak now has 28 red, four orange, eight yellow zones and zero green zone. — DayakDaily
