6 teams to represent S’wak at 12th National Dragon and Lion Dance Championship 2024 in Perak

KUCHING, Nov 18: Sarawak will be represented by six teams at the 12th National Dragon and Lion Dance Championship 2024 which will take place from November 22-24 in Perak.

According to a news report from TVS today, Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Sarawak Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said he is confident in the team’s ability to display excellent performance and win medals for Sarawak in the event.

“These teams not only reflect Sarawak’s commitment in fostering sports and cultural heritage but also as hope for them to bring home medals and maybe even emerge as overall champions at the tournament,” he said after handing over the Sarawak flag to the competing team from the Kuching Division Chinese Martial Arts Association at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) building today.

Meanwhile, the association president Chester Lim Hian Thoong said the teams will compete in four main events namely Luminous Dragon Dance, Southern Lion Traditional, High Pole Southern Lion Dance, and Northern Lion Dance.

“We not only aim for success in the competition but also strive to improve Sarawak’s cultural heritage and sports image, in addition to doing it with enthusiasm and giving a lasting impact,” he added.

The team representing Sarawak will be led by the president of the Sarawak Singa Naga Wushu Association, Matthew Lee King Choon. — DayakDaily
