KUCHING, Feb 18: A businessman was ordered to enter his defence to a charge of physically sexually assaulting his underaged step-granddaughter.
Sessions Court Judge Jason Juga today ruled that the prosecution had successfully proven its case on a prima facie case against the 58-year-old.
One of the accused’s counsel, Christopher Bada, told the Court that the accused will give his sworn evidence and the defendant will call three witnesses including the accused for the defence.
The accused was also allowed to be released on bail of RM5,000 with two local sureties.
The accused allegedly molested the 14-year-old victim and touched her private parts sexually at a house in Matang, at about 3pm on Dec 11, 2019.
He was charged under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 and punishable under Section 14 of the same Act, which carries a maximum imprisonment term of 20 years and with whipping.
