KUCHING, Aug 22: Fifty-seven people from a longhouse in Tatau who attended a funeral ceremony have tested positive for Covid-19, thus triggering the new Sungai Penyarai 2 Cluster.
According to a report from the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) today, a total of 101 people from the longhouse located at Sungai Penyarai Kakus, Tatau and currently under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) were swabbed.
So far, 57 people have tested positive for the coronavirus including the index case while the remaining 44 individuals are awaiting Covid-19 swab test results.
SDMC said the Covid-19 patients from the cluster have been admitted to health facilities and a Covid-19 Quarantine and Low Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) for treatment.
Meanwhile, the Sungai Penyarai 2 Cluster is one of three new clusters of Covid-19 announced in Sarawak today.
The other two are the Kampung Matang Lot Cluster in Kuching and Kampung Lintang Baru in Serian.
With this, the cumulative number of active clusters in Sarawak stands at 119, of which 19 reported 221 new cases today. — DayakDaily
