“The victim was subsequently instructed to join an investment group on the Telegram app.

“Attracted by the promised offers and returns, the man made several money transactions in stages (sending funds) to different bank accounts, totaling RM58,800 from the end of October 2024 to early November 2024.

“The victim only realised he had been scammed when the investment did not yield the promised returns,” he said in a statement today.

Following the incident, the victim lodged a report at the Sarikei Police Station.

In response, Aswandy advised the public to invest only on platforms registered with Bank Negara Malaysia and Securities Commission Malaysia and to seek financial advice from registered agents.

“Do not trust investments that promise high returns in a short period, and do not transfer money into accounts unrelated to the investment.

“Always check the company and websites that have not been approved or authorized by Bank Negara Malaysia or the Securities Commission Malaysia,” he said.

He also urged anyone conducting similar transactions to verify account and phone numbers through Check Scammer CCID or the website https://semakmule.rmp.gov.my/ before making any financial transactions. — DayakDaily
