KUCHING, Oct 17: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Kota Samarahan has identified 52 village community management council (MPKK) candidates for Asajaya and Muara Tuang constituencies.
Its communication chief Numpang Suntai said the proposed names will be submitted to the state PKR which will then discuss the recommendations with other component parties in Pakatan Harapan (PH) and subsequently, the appointments will be done by the Ministry of Rural Development (KPLB).
“All the names for MPKK Asajaya and Muara Tuang were recommended by PKR. As for Stakan, members of DAP (Democratic Action Party) were included in the lineup after discussions were done at the local level,” Numpang said at a press conference today.
During the PKR Kota Samarahan meeting which was held on Oct 16 at Bukit Berangan, branch chief Jemree Sabli also informed the group that each MPKK will receive an annual grant of RM10,000 from KPLB, in addition to allowances and assistance from other ministries for organising activities or programmes for the residents in the respective area.
While explaining about MPKK, Jemree said the federal government has no intention to replace the existing ‘tuai rumah’ or ‘ketua kampung’ in any village. Instead, MPKK was established to be the communication channel between the federal government and ‘rakyat’.
“These communication channels are crucial for the ‘rakyat’ to know all the various initiatives which the ruling government has provided including benefits such as Health Care Scheme for Group B40, mySalam, i-Suri, Bantuan Sara Hidup and Poor People’s Housing Programme (PPRT)
“However, the initiatives and PH government programmes could not be implemented effectively in Sarawak as it was prevented by the Sarawak government directive that did not allow their village chiefs and community leaders to participate in any PH government sponsored programmes,” Jemree added. — DayakDaily
