Ten fined RM300 each for gambling in public

KUCHING, Oct 17: The Magistrate’s Court here sentenced eight men and two women to a fine of RM300 each for gambling in a public area.

The eight accused aged between 48 to 83 pleaded guilty to the charges.


Magistrate Mohd Syukri Mokhtar accepted their guilty plea and sentenced them to a fine of RM300 each.

They were found gaming in a public area, at Padawan Market, Mile 10, at about 3.15pm on October 15, 2019.

They were charged under Section 7(2) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 to be read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code, which carries a fine not exceeding RM5,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months, or both upon conviction.
