5,000 to march, perform at Sarawak TYT birthday parade

MIRI, Oct 9: A total 106 contingents involving some 5,000 participants and performers will take part in Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud’s 83rd birthday celebration parade at Miri Stadium this Saturday.

State Secretary Datu Jaul Samion said a crowd of about 15,000 is expected to turn up at the venue to celebrate the occasion.


“Today we have 106 contingents taking part in the rehearsal with 5,000 participants including those involved in the performances programme,” he told reporters after observing the first day rehearsal at the event venue, here, today.

The full dress rehearsal will be held tomorrow, he added, while expressing satisfactory with the rehearsal.

Miri Resident Mastapa Julaihi and Protocol and Event Management Unit (Chief Minister’s Department) director Azlan Abdul Badri were present.

According to Azlan, several new elements will be introduced in the parade programme this year.

“There would be interval performances between the parade and during the dinner reception, the head of state and other guests will be entertained by an orchestra,” he said.

The ceremonial parade in honour of the Sarawak Governor’s birthday will be observed on Saturday morning (Oct 12). — DayakDaily
