KUCHING, Aug 4: A framed photograph capturing a milestone moment in Sarawak’s history became one of the most meaningful birthday gifts for Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg as he celebrated his 76th birthday today.
After officiating the 3rd Annual Meeting of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) Cities of Gastronomy, Abang Johari was approached by photographer Zulazhar Sheblee, fondly known among the local media fraternity as Apai, who presented him with a framed photograph taken during the official launching of Batang Lupar Bridge 1 on July 9, just before the Premier departed for the Sarawakku Sayang Convoy to Sibu.
The thoughtful gesture appeared to catch Abang Johari off guard. He paused to admire the photograph, smiled broadly, thanked Apai and posed for photographs with him.
The framed picture was the second surprise of the day for the Premier, who was born on Aug 4, 1950.

Earlier, moments after officiating the international gastronomy conference, a birthday cake was wheeled into the hall, prompting delegates and guests to break into a chorus of “Happy Birthday”.
The back-to-back surprises added a warm and personal touch to what was otherwise a formal international gathering, making the Premier’s 76th birthday one to remember. — DayakDaily
