KUCHING, May 19: The Bung Sadung Climbathon Trail Challenge, which will be held at Kampung Bunga, Serian, this coming August 27, is expected to attract around 500 participants with prizes worth over RM15,000 to be won.
According to a statement by the event organisers, participants are required to race 10km uphill to the mountain’s viewpoint.
The event is open to all who would like to discover one of Bukar Sadung’s heritage nature trails, with the event added to the Sarawak Calendar of Tourism Events 2023.
“Mount Sadung, some 50 km from Kuching city, is considered an inherited home reserve for the local Bukar Bidayuhs from the 26 villages surrounding the mountain.
“The mountain holds a heritage settlement site believed to be the ancestral ground for the Bukar Bidayuhs dating back to the Brooke era,” it said.
Organised by Kampung Bunga’s development and security committee in collaboration with Serian District Council, the event has seven categories.
The various categories and their respective registration fees are; 10km Men Open (RM110), 10km Women Open (RM110), 6km Men Veteran for 45 years old and above (RM90), 6km Women Veteran for 45 years and above (RM90), 6km Boy’s Junior for ages 12 to 17 years old (RM60), 6km Girl’s Junior for ages 12 to 17 years old (RM60), and a 3km fun hike (RM60).
Those who register before May 31 will be eligible for the early bird fee.
Participants will receive a finisher’s medal and certificate upon the completion of the race, and lunch will be provided at the finishing point.
The event will also feature an exhibition area and refreshment booths.
Registration is now open and can be done through the Serian District Council service counter, the Bung Sadung, Serian Sarawak Facebook page or by clicking on the registration link here.
Alternatively, registration can also be done via the JomRun app, available on Android, iOS, and Huawei devices.
The registration deadline is July 31, 2023.
