KUCHING, May 19: Billy Sujang (GPS-Opar) has called for an increase in the rural transformation programme (RTP) fund from RM5 million to RM7 million and the minor rural project (MRP) fund from RM2 million to RM3 million.

He said the current funds are insufficient to cover a big constituency like Opar.

“I am sure other YBs (elected representatives) who are serving in the rural areas (are) experiencing the same situation.

“For that, in tandem with ADUN (assemblyman) Daro (Safiee Ahmad), I would like to request for the RTP fund to be raised from RM5 million to RM7 million and the MRP fund to be raised from RM2 million to RM3 million,” he said when debating in support of the motion of appreciation of TYT’s speech at Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting here today.

At the same time, Billy has requested an allocation of RM96 million for the upgrading of 10km of loose gravel and dirt road between Kampung Sedaing to Kampung Kendaie (RM60 million) and the upgrading of the road from Jangkar to Kampung Pasir Tengah (RM36 million), which have been long overdue.

He also called on the Ministry of Infrastructure and Port Development (MIPD) and Public Works Department (JKR) to update the status of the long-approved RM27 million Selampit Bridge and the RM27 million Selampit-Kampung Kendaie Road. — DayakDaily
