PBDS wants prices of basic goods monitored, controlled as Gawai approaches

Moses Ripai

KUCHING May 19: Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak (PBDS) acting president Major (Rtd) Moses Ripai has requested the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living and the Sarawak government to monitor and control the prices of basic goods as Gawai Dayak approaches.

He said among the basic foods that need to be monitored are chicken, beef, flour, and sugar.

“Most Malaysians, especially those in rural Sarawak, are affected when the prices of goods are not controlled and inflated.

“The cost of goods in rural areas are inflated due to an increase in the cost of production and transportation.

“We hope the business community would not take advantage and simply increase the price of goods,” said Moses in a statement.

Meanwhile, Moses also urged the government to consider reverting the school year to January so that Gawai Dayak will fall during the mid-term holiday and give students a longer break.

“This goes the same for the end of the school term, which should be at the end of November. This would help parents to prepare for their children to go to school.” — DayakDaily
