KUCHING, Feb 5: About 500 KMC Flat residents receives contributions during Kuching South City Council (MBKS) ‘Program Masyarakat Penyayang’ today.

According to MBKS mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng, the contributions were distributed not only to Chinese residents, but also residents of other races.

“We want them to celebrate the festive season together,” he told reporters when met after the ‘Masyarakat Penyayang’ programme held in conjunction with Chinese New Year at the MBKS multipurpose hall on Jalan Ban Hock.

Wee also disclosed the council will hold another distribution programme for about 100 residents who are in dire need of assistance, such as the hardcore poor.

He said that the programme will be held separately from the main programme to avoid any misunderstanding among the recipients on the contributions given.

He also hoped that more companies would come forward to support the event as a form of corporate social responsibility (CRS).

“As part of the local government, MBKS must not only do paperwork in the office, but also go to the ground and understand the people who are living in the area by getting feedback, listening and caring for them.

“That should be the way how city councils should be run,” he added.

‘Program Masyarakat Penyayang’ is MBKS’ annual event to provide assistance to the needy. For this year, KMC Flat residents received poultry meat and fish as well as mandarin oranges sponsored by CCK Fresh Mart and Eco Fish. — DayakDaily
