4G coverage in Bintulu hits 52.34pct

BINTULU, Sept 4: Bintulu has achieved a notable 52.34 per cent 4G network coverage rate as of the second quarter of 2024.

Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) general manager Dato Dr Anderson Tiong emphasised that this advancement is crucial for supporting Sarawak’s future economy and is a cornerstone of the Post-Covid Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 and the Sarawak Digital Economy Blueprint 2030.

“Integrating 4G and 5G technology into our telecommunications infrastructure is vital for establishing smart cities, enhancing industrial efficiency, and improving public services,” he said in a news report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas).

Tiong further mentioned that this technology will not only boost business operations but also drive innovation in the education and healthcare sectors, creating new opportunities across both urban and rural areas.

He made these remarks during the Sarawak Telecommunications Development Engagement Session at Bintulu Port Authority’s Auditorium on Tuesday (Sept 3), which was attended by Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department Dato Sri John Sikie Tayai, Deputy Minister for Telecommunication Datuk Liwan Lagang, Murum assemblyman Kennedy Chukpai Ugon, Jepak assemblyman Iskandar Turkee as well as local community leaders and village heads (KMKK) from the Bintulu Division.

Tiong also addressed the issue of vandalism, noting that it significantly impacts the quality of telecommunications services.

“We will take stringent actions against those involved in vandalism,” he assured, calling for enhanced surveillance and greater community cooperation to ensure the successful development of 4G and 5G networks in Sarawak. — DayakDaily
