49yo man critically injured after 4WD crashes into broken-down lorry in Sibu

KUCHING, June 1: A 49-year-old man was left unconscious after the four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle he was driving collided with a stationary lorry along Jalan Wawasan in Sibu early this morning.

According to a report from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the incident occurred at about 1.54am and involved a 4WD crashing into a lorry that had broken down and was parked at the roadside.

The driver of the 4WD vehicle was found trapped in the driver’s seat and unconscious.

A team of 11 firefighters from the Sungai Merah fire station, led by PBK I Mohd Mafri, was dispatched to the scene along with one Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) and a van.

Rescuers used the SAVER method to extricate the victim from the wreckage. Once freed, the victim was handed over to Health Ministry (KKM) personnel for further medical treatment.

The operation was successfully concluded at 2.36am after ensuring the scene was safe. — DayakDaily
