1 dead, 24 homeless after 2 separate house fires erupt hours apart in Bintulu

KUCHING, June 1: Two house fires broke out within hours of each other in Bintulu, resulting in the death of one man.

According to reports by the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the first incident occurred at Kidurong MLNG Housing, Jalan Abang Usop, on Saturday night (May 31).

An emergency call was received at 11.43pm, and firefighters from the Kidurong station were deployed with assistance from the Bintulu station.

Upon arrival, it was noted that five single-storey terrace houses measuring 82×22 square feet were destroyed in the incident, leaving a total of 21 people homeless.

The second incident occurred today at Jalan Sibiew near SJK Siong Boon, where an emergency call was received at 2.32am, and firefighters from the Bintulu station were deployed.

The fire involved a house measuring 11×15 square feet that was destroyed, involving four victims, of whom three were safe but one died.

A male victim was believed to have been trapped during the fire and was rescued by other occupants, but he was found unconscious with burn injuries on his body.

“The victim was later pronounced dead by medical officers from the Health Ministry who were at the scene,” said the report. — DayakDaily
