KUCHING, June 10: A social gathering at a longhouse in Jalan Samarakan in Tatau sparked a new Covid-19 cluster dubbed the Jalan Samarakan Cluster which has so far infected 49 people.

According to a report from the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), the Jalan Samarakan Cluster is a community cluster. The affected longhouse has been placed under an Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO).

The cluster was triggered following a gathering involving villagers and close family members.

To date, SDMC said, a total of 79 people have been screened for Covid-19.

Out of that number, 49 have tested positive, 28 have tested negative and two are awaiting Covid-19 swab test results.

SDMC noted that all the Covid-19 patients for the cluster have been admitted to Bintulu Hospital and also to the Bintulu quarantine and low-risk treatment centre (PKRC) for isolation and treatment.

The Jalan Samarakan Cluster is one of two new clusters identified by the State Health Department today.

The second new cluster is the Bali Pie Cluster in Subis.

Meanwhile, the Sungai Tengah Cluster in Bau was declared ended today.

With this, there are presently 77 active Covid-19 clusters in Sarawak, with 10 clusters reporting 141 new cases today. — DayakDaily
