475 Sarawakian students in Peninsular Malaysia receive ‘duit raya’

KUCHING, March 23: A total of 475 Sarawakian students studying in Peninsular Malaysia have received Aidilfitri donations from Yayasan Sarawak during the Sungkei Anak Sarawak 2025 programme held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) on March 22.

According to the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), of the total, 392 are students from institutes of higher learning, 36 are under the Yayasan Sarawak Student Exchange Programme, seven are children of Yayasan Sarawak staff, and 40 are children of the Rumah Sarawak Kuala Lumpur staff.

The donations in the form of ‘duit raya’ and food were presented by the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, accompanied by Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and his wife, Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang.

Deputy Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Fadillah Yusof, Dewan Negara president Dato Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah, Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian, and the Speaker of the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nasar were also in attendance.

Meanwhile, students were also informed that they can apply for free laptops and book voucher assistance via the Yayasan Sarawak website, which will be open from March 23 to April 30.

This application is specifically for all Sarawak students studying at public and private higher education institutions.

The event, organised by Yayasan Sarawak in collaboration with the Sarawak Liaison Office Kuala Lumpur and Sarawak Volunteers, saw the participation of more than 2,000 guests, consisting of Sarawakians serving in Peninsular Malaysia and strategic government partners.

Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Yayasan Sarawak director Datu Mersal Abang Rosli, and State and federal ministers and deputy ministers were also present. — DayakDaily
