47-year-old woman is 14th Covid-19 death in Sarawak

KUCHING, April 12: Sarawak recorded another death due to Covid-19 today, involving a 47-year-old woman from Kuching.

The State Disaster Management Committee said the latest fatality is the 14th Covid-19 death in Sarawak.

“The deceased experienced coughing and fever on April 2 and was admitted to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for treatment on April 8.


“The woman was tested positive for Covid-19 on April 10 and passed away today at 7.36am,” it said in a statement.

According to the committee, Sarawak recorded seven positive cases of Covid-19, which brings the number of cumulative cases to 341.

All the new patients are being treated at SGH, it added.

The state also recorded 185 new cases of person under investigation (PUI). Of the number, 156 cases were in Kuching, Samarahan (13), Bau (7), Serian (3), Miri (3) and one each in Betong, Kapit and Bintulu.

On another note, the committee revealed that the compliance rate for the movement control order (MCO) in Sarawak stood at 97.1 per cent.

However, it noted that the police have arrested 17 people the state yesterday for violating the MCO.

“Miri has the most number of people being arrested with nine, followed by two in Kuching, two in Sibu, two in Padawan and one each in Dalat and Tatau,” the statement continued.

The committee reported that 41 more Sarawakians who returned home to the state have been quarantined. The number of Sarawakians returning to the state stood at 753 and all have been placed at the respective quarantine centres as person under surveillance. — DayakDaily
