450,000 face shields for Sarawak’s medical personnel reach Kuching today

KUCHING, Mar 10: Sarawak Health Department today receives 450,000 pieces of face shields which it ordered from China.

According to Local Government and Housing Minister Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian, these face shields which are packed in 2,250 cartoons reached Kuching from Ji Ning City, China, in 4×40 ft containers.


Dr Sim said these newly arrived personal protective equipment (PPE) will be distributed to all the medical staff of Sarawak Health Department in different healthcare facilities throughout Sarawak starting tomorrow.

Presently, the consumption rate of face shields among medical personnel of the Sarawak Health Department is 4,000 pieces per day.

“Other PPE including protective coveralls of 98,800 pieces, plastic aprons of 350,000 pieces and shoe covers of 240,000 pieces will arrive in April,” said Dr Sim who is also Batu Kawa assemblyman in a statement today.

This PPE is part of the protective gears needed for use by medical staff during the vaccination of Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 across the State.

To cover the cost incurred to immunise the whole of Sarawak, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg had announced an allocation of RM30 million to assist Sarawak Health Department and the federal government.- Dayakdaily
