KUCHING, March 14: A 43-year-old man, identified as Hamil Hamdan, is feared missing after failing to return home from a fishing trip in Kampung Sageng, Simunjan yesterday (March 13).
According to the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak, the victim reportedly left his home at No. 102 Kampung Sageng at approximately 11am to fish in the river. However, he failed to return home afterwards.
Villagers later discovered his boat and fishing equipment at the Segali River, raising concerns about his safety.
Bomba received the distress call regarding the missing person at 12.39pm today, subsequently launching a search and rescue (SAR) operation for the victim.
“The first phase of the operation involved gathering information about the victim and setting up a Forward Operations Base (PKOB) before commencing the search,” Bomba stated.
The SAR operation team consists of five personnel, supported by one Light Fire Rescue Tender (LFRT), one Hilux vehicle, and one rescue boat.
The operation remains ongoing as authorities continue their efforts to locate the missing man. – DayakDaily
