43 contingents showcase Sarawak’s diversity during Chap Goh Mei Lundu celebration parade

KUCHING, Feb 7: A total of 43 contingents participated in the Chap Goh Mei festival celebration parade around Lundu Town Square on Sunday (Feb 5) which represented the diversity of the State’s many races and cultures.

According to a news report published by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), the parade included communities from not only the Lundu district, but also Sabah and Brunei Darussalam, making the celebration even more lively.

Women, Family, and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, who had the opportunity to participate in the festivities, stated that the Chap Goh Mei celebration is a common occurrence in Lundu and is held annually.

According to Nancy, this year’s performances featuring various ethnic communities have wowed the audience, and this indirectly demonstrates the organisation’s acceptance of diverse ethnic communities, customs, cultures, and heritage.

This was stated during her closing remarks at the celebration organised by the Chung Hua Lundu Association and the Lundu District Chinese Community Organization.

During the same ceremony, Nancy, who is also Santubong MP, handed out symbolic participation to all participating contingents.

Also present were the Political Secretary to the Premier of Sarawak, Niponi Undek, Special Officer to the Premier of Sarawak, Bujang Helmi Hazemi, Political Secretary to the Minister of Women, Family, and Community Development Malaysia, Mohammed Kamaluddin Mohd Effendi, managing chairman Pemanca Chin Kian Ming, and Chung Hua Lundu Association chairman Councilor Goh Chin Seng. — DayakDaily
