4 more Covid-19 clusters emerge in Kuching

KUCHING, Aug 10: Four more Covid-19 clusters with a total of 119 confirmed cases have been identified in Kuching, involving Kampung Jaya Bakti in Matang, Kampung Tanjong Bako in Kuching, a residential area at Lorong Taman Cahaya Damai in Petra Jaya and Kampung Braang Payang in Padawan.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in its daily update on the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak, revealed that the Lorong Cahaya Damai Cluster recorded the highest number of cases among the new clusters at 54.

Infections were traced to several families in a residential area located at Lorong Cahaya Damai in Bandar Baru Semariang, Petra Jaya here.


A total of 152 individuals have been screened, with 98 testing negative and no lab test results pending. Of the positive cases detected so far, one case was reported today.

The Kampung Tanjong Bako Cluster, which has 27 cases to-date, was linked to several families at the village located along Jalan Kampung Tanjung Bako here.

A total of 61 individuals have been screened, out of which 34 have tested negative with no lab test results pending.

The Braang Payang Cluster with 23 positive cases so far involved several families from Kampung Braang Payang located at Jalan Braang Payang in the sub-district of Padawan.

A total of 36 individuals have been screened, with 13 testing negative and no lab test results pending.

The Kampung Jaya Bakti Cluster has 15 positive cases stemming from several families living at the village located at Jalan Selang, off Jalan Akses FAC in Matang here.

A total of 56 individuals have been screened, whereby 41 tested negative and no lab test results are pending.

All the positive cases from the four clusters have been admitted to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) as well as the Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) Kuching for treatment and isolation.

Overall, Sarawak announced seven new clusters today. The remaining three are the Sessang Cluster at Kabong with 42 cases, the Dabai Baruh Cluster in Saratok with 32 cases and the Senibung Cluster in Lundu with seven cases.

SDMC also today announced the end of two clusters namely the Kampung Serikin Cluster in Bau and the Sungai Long Seripa Cluster in Sebauh, after no new local cases were reported in the past 28 days.

With this, the number of active clusters in Sarawak has increased to 96, out of which 17 clusters registered a total of 414 new cases todah. — DayakDaily
