78yo without comorbidities among 2 deaths as Sarawak sees 836 new Covid-19 cases

KUCHING, Aug 10: A 78 year-old patient from Serian without comorbidities was among the two new deaths reported in Sarawak as the State registered 836 new Covid-19 cases today.

According to a report from the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), two senior citizens, one aged 78 from Serian and another aged 61 from Kuching died of Covid-19 in Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).


With two more casualties due to Covid-19 in Sarawak, the death toll in the State has increased to 473.

Sarawak recorded 836 cases of Covid-19 out of which 84.93 per cent or 710 cases were asymptomatic.

The balance of 126 cases were identified has having mild symptoms.

Among the new cases reported, there were four Import B cases from individuals returning from Kedah, Malacca, Terengganu and Kuala Lumpur each whilst one was symptomatic.

Based on the district where cases were identified, Kuching reported 458 new cases which made up more than half of the cases in Sarawak.

This was followed by Serian with 131 cases, Samarahan (56), Asajaya (21), Dalat (21), Sibu (20), Simunjan (19), Bintulu (14), Beluru (14), Miri (13), Kapit (13), Sri Aman (11), Mukah (9), Bau (8), Lundu (6), Tebedu (4), Selangau (4), Saratok (3), Kabong (3), Betong (2), Sarikei (2), Pakan (1), Tatau (1), Subis (1) and Sebauh (1).

The additional cases reported increased the cumulative Covid-19 cases in the State to 82,753.

A total of 563 Covid-19 patients recovered and discharged from health facilities in Sarawak bringing total recoveries to 74,626 people or 90.18 per cent of the overall confirmed cases in the State.

There are currently 7,474 Covid-19 patients being treated in hospitals and Covid-19 Quarantine and Low Risk Treatment Centres in Sarawak out of which 27 patients were in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and 11 patients on ventilators support.
