KUCHING, Oct 23: The ground floor of the 3rd Mile Market is set to reopen tomorrow (Oct 24) to the public and traders, following the completion of a flooring upgrade that includes an anti-slip epoxy flake coating.

This new coating is specifically designed to provide enhanced grip, significantly reducing the risk of slips and falls, particularly in areas prone to wet conditions.

Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Tan Kai expressed satisfaction that the public can once again enjoy their grocery shopping at the market.

The market had been temporarily closed since Oct 14 for improvement and upgrading works aimed at providing a safer and more conducive environment for shoppers while offering hawkers a modernized space to conduct their business.

As part of the upgrades, MPP has also installed a rainwater harvesting system, which will collect rainwater for cleaning and other non-potable uses, contributing to the council’s sustainability efforts.

“We hope these improvements will benefit both the public and hawkers, enhancing the overall market experience,” said Tan in a statement after visiting the site to inspect the completed works today.

In addition to the flooring upgrade, the RM300,000 project includes several other enhancements. These include the construction of staircase awnings, the replacement of polycarbonate upper roofing, painting of the first-floor ceiling and parapet wall, and waterproofing of both upper and lower roof slabs.

Furthermore, MPP has installed 15 ceiling fans on both the ground and first floors to improve ventilation.

The public is encouraged to contact MPP chairman, councillors, or MPP staff for updates or clarifications regarding the market’s upgrade progress. — DayakDaily
