KUCHING, May 27: A 39-year-old local man, with a history of 38 serious criminal offenses, was apprehended at his residence in Jalan Matang on suspicion of involvement in recent burglaries and vehicle thefts in Taman Long Seng, resulting in a loss of RM90,000.

Kuching Police District chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah revealed that the suspect was apprehended by a police team last Saturday (May 25) based on intelligence gathered.

“During the operation, police seized various items including an disassembled air gun, two ‘kwantao’ (swords), two machetes, two axes, a smartphone, and assorted tools, along with a stolen vehicle.

“Subsequent urine tests confirmed the suspect’s positive result for amphetamine and methamphetamine drugs. Additionally, the suspect has a history of 38 prior offenses related to drugs and violence,” he said in a statement yesterday (May 26).

The case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code, which carries a prison sentence of up to 14 years along with fines, and under Section 379A of the Penal Code, which mandates a prison sentence ranging from one to seven years along with fines.
