39yo driver killed, four injured in road accident near Tanjung Batu Beach

KUCHING, Sept 15: A 39-year-old man was killed while four others, including two young children, sustained injuries in a two-vehicle collision at Tanjung Batu Beach, Bintulu heading towards ABF Beach here last night.

Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre reported receiving a distress call at 7.41pm regarding the accident involving a red Proton Persona and a white Mitsubishi Triton.

A team of nine firefighters from Bintulu Fire Station led by PBK I Sat Rawing was deployed to the scene, located about 8km away.

Upon arrival, they found the driver of the Proton Persona, identified as Ansam Maja, unconscious and trapped in the driver’s seat.

Rescuers used Road Traffic Accident (RTA) tools to extricate the victim, who was later confirmed dead at the scene by Health Ministry (KKM) personnel.

Meanwhile, four occupants of the Mitsubishi Triton including children aged 2 and 4, had been rescued by members of the public before firefighters arrived. They sustained head and leg injuries.

Firefighters also carried out cleaning work by flushing out oil spillage caused by the accident to prevent further mishaps.

The victim’s body has been handed over to the police for further action while the injured were attended to by medical personnel. The operation ended at 8.46pm. – DayakDaily
