SRI AMAN, April 21: Police have arrested a 38-year-old man who is suspected of sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl at an old cemetery in Kampung Kubal, Betong on April 10.
Sri Aman District Police Chief DSP Mathew Manggie said the arrest was made near a Batu Niah oil palm plantation in Miri around 5.40pm last Friday (April 19).
The suspect has been identified as Andrew Jarau.
“The police have been hunting down the suspect after receiving a police report on April 10, around 6.40pm.
“The case is being investigated under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences against Children Act 2017 which carries a penalty of imprisonment of not more than 20 years and caning.
“The suspect is currently being remanded for five days beginning today until April 25. The case is still under investigation,” Mathew said in a statement today. — DayakDaily
