KUCHING, Nov 18: A total of 370 applications have been submitted to the Sarawak Native Recognition Application System since it became accessible online on Sept 2, 2024.
Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department Dato Sri John Sikie Tayai revealed this when delivering his winding-up speech regarding the Sarawak Bumiputera recognition applications during the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) sitting here today.
“This (online) system has been proven not only to facilitate applications but also the management of applications for recognition as Sarawak Bumiputera,” he said.
So far, a total of 3,498 applications have been received from November 2023 until October 31, 2024.
“Out of the total (3,498 applicants), 3,329 applications were approved, 141 applications are under review, and 28 applications were not approved because they did not meet the requirements,” said Sikie.
The requirements for an individual to be recognised as a Sarawak Bumiputera are as follows:
- The applicant is a Malaysian citizen;
- The applicant is the biological child born to Bumiputera from Sarawak; and
- One of the applicant’s biological parents must be Sarawak Bumiputera.
