37 escape injury as bus bursts into flames near Kg Jerok

KUCHING, July 13: It was a narrow escape for 37 people including the driver after a bus they were travelling in caught fire near Kampung Jerok, along the Serian-Sri Aman road last night.

According to a statement from the state Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Operations Centre, Bomba was alerted to the incident at 8.18pm and a team was deployed to the scene.

The bus was heading towards Kuching from Mukah. It is believed the fire started near the bus’s rear left tire. Upon realising this, the bus driver immediately got out of the bus and attempted to put out the fire using a fire extinguisher.

The Bomba team reached the scene not long after receiving the alert and managed to put out the fire.

The bus was 90 per cent burnt. the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

No one was reported injured and the Bomba operation ended at 10.54pm. — DayakDaily
