KUCHING, Sept 10: A 35-year-old man was sentenced to 12 months in prison by the Magistrates’ Court here today after admitting to threatening to kill his mother when she refused to give him RM20.
The unemployed man pleaded guilty before Magistrate Nursyaheeqa Nazwa Radzali to a charge of criminal intimidation under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of seven years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both.
The incident occurred at their home in Sungai Apong at around 11.15am on Sept 6.
According to the prosecution, the accused became aggressive during an argument with his mother, smashing household furniture and doors while under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
When his mother refused to give him money, fearing it would be used for narcotics, the accused allegedly threatened her life, saying, “I will kill you,” in front of his brother, who witnessed the confrontation.
Fearing for their safety, both the mother and brother fled the home and subsequently lodged a police report. He was arrested later that evening.
Investigations confirmed that his threats caused his mother to feel fearful and unsafe.
