KUCHING, Aug 10: A 35-year-old man from Matang has been arrested for involvement in stealing a Perodua Kancil.
Kuching police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah said the suspect was arrested in a house at Jalan Matang yesterday (Aug 9) at 2pm.
He said among the items confiscated during the arrest are a Perodua Kancil vehicle, a crowbar, a grinding shelf, a sandpaper holder, a grinding wheel with sandpaper, a paper cutter, four spray cans (black color), a pair of scissors, four pieces of 1000 grid sandpaper, a roll of white masking tape, a white towel, a yellow color sponge and a vehicle registration number bearing the number plate of OKF6313.
“A urine test result shows that the suspect is positive for Amphetamine type drug. The suspect also has seven past criminal records involving drug, burglary and violence.
“The case is investigated under Section 379A of the Penal Code which carries a minimum one-year imprisonment but not more than seven years and also liable to a fine upon conviction,” said Ahsmon in a statement today.
He added that a remand application for the suspect was also made today at the Kuching Magistrate Court.
On a related matter, he said the police have successfully arrested a total of 61 suspects for involvement in vehicle theft from January to July 2023.
Of the total number of arrests, he said 10 of the suspects were categorised as repeat offenders and 17 of them were positive for drugs. — DayakDaily
