BINTULU, Aug 18: A 32-year-old driver died when the petrol tanker he was operating overturned while travelling along the Bintulu-Sebubu coastal road.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak promptly responded to a distress call at 6.10am today.
Upon arrival, firefighters from the Kidurong and Bintulu stations discovered the victim unconscious and trapped in the driver’s seat.
The tanker, carrying 10,800 litres of petrol and 16,200 litres of diesel, had toppled over.
Employing specialised tools and aided by a crane truck, the firefighters successfully extracted the victim from the wreckage by 9.20am.
Paramedics from the Ministry of Health pronounced the victim deceased at the scene. Law enforcement authorities took custody of the remains for further action.
The Bomba teams undertook the task of cleaning the accident site and also oversaw the meticulous process of transferring the contents from the overturned tanker to another, which concluded at 1.15pm. — DayakDaily
