KUCHING, Oct 7: The Sarawak Artificial Intelligence Centre (SAIC) has partnered with IBM Malaysia to establish an in-country, first-of-its-kind Quantum Safe Centre designed to fortify the State’s readiness against post-quantum security threats.
According to a press statement from IBM Malaysia, the proposed facility will serve as a sovereign innovation hub for quantum-safe research, awareness and technology adoption, while simultaneously cultivating regional tech talent and ecosystem development across East Malaysia.
As quantum computing advances, the joint initiative aims to reinforce cyber resilience, digital sovereignty and trusted data governance.
To achieve this, the centre will leverage the IBM Guardium Cryptography Manager, enabling organisations to identify cryptographic assets, evaluate exposure risks and seamlessly transition toward post-quantum cryptography.
The initiative will target organisations ranging from small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to large businesses and public-sector agencies through customer programmes, demonstrations and scalable services.
IBM Malaysia Country General Manager and Technology Leader Dickson Woo said organisations needed to strengthen their defences against emerging quantum-related threats.
“The post-quantum era is approaching faster than many organizations realise.
“At this pivotal moment, strong public-private collaboration is essential to securing critical data and systems from ‘harvest now, decrypt later’ attacks, and future cryptographically relevant quantum computers,” he said.
SAIC chief executive officer Patrick Then said the collaboration would strengthen Sarawak’s capabilities in quantum-safe technology and support its long-term competitiveness.
“Sarawak is investing boldly in the technologies that will define the future.
“Together with IBM, we are accelerating innovation, building quantum-safe readiness and strengthening the capabilities needed to drive long-term competitiveness,” he said. —DayakDaily
