MIRI, Aug 31: A 31-year-old driver was killed and three others were injured in a road accident near the Niah junction yesterday (Aug 30), when a 4WD vehicle making a U-turn collided with a 10-tonne lorry.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak responded to the emergency at 6.12pm and swiftly deployed a team of firefighters from the Batu Niah Station to the location.
The operation commander reported that the 4WD vehicle, driven by the deceased was making a U-turn when the collision happened.
Two passengers in the vehicle, a 31-year-old woman and a 6-year-old girl, sustained injuries. They were assisted out of the vehicle by members of the public and later transported to the hospital.
The deceased was still pinned inside the vehicle when rescuers arrived. The lorry driver also suffered injuries.
Firefighters successfully extricated the deceased, who was confirmed dead at the scene by medical personnel from the Ministry of Health (MOH).
The body was then handed over to the police for further action. ā DayakDaily
